message from pastor David
Greetings friends and covenant members of Global Harvest Church.
I hope everyone is safe and well. We know that with the escalation of the Coronavirus, many are concerned with the health and safety of their families and communities. We have been closely monitoring the updates and reports from the CDC as well as taking in the counsel of the many physician members we have at our church. We want you all to rest assured that we’re taking every safety measure and precaution for our church and its people.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has announced a ban of public gatherings of 500 or more and the City of Carrollton has just followed suit. It is recommended that gatherings of 250 should also be reconsidered before meeting together. With the size of our church gatherings and our desire to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we believe it’s in our best interest and in the interest of our community to suspend all mid-week, weekend gatherings until further notice. That means all Sunday services, all Home Group gatherings, all Thursday Prayer night services and all joint community outreaches will be suspended until further notice. We will instead stream our Sunday service LIVE on Sunday morning.
So, what does that mean for us then? As we prayed and discussed our next steps, Philippians chapter 3 verses 12-14 was shared.
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
While our weekly gatherings will take a pause, it’s clear that our spiritual lives will and must progress. Dear Global Harvest family, there’s a fine line between fear and caution. We want to be cautious and wise in how we navigate through this but we don’t want to be so consumed by it that it turns into irrational fear and anxiety.
Therefore, the message God placed on my heart for our people is to press on by making most of this time. Folks, this is where we Get To! We get to grow in our love for our families by spending quality time through discipleship, we get to grow in our love for our neighbors by meeting the needs of those most at risk and we get to take a break from our hectic lives to rest and remind ourselves of who we worship and adore.
We are faced with a wide scale problem, one that disrupts our vacation plans, our academics, our desire to live the way we’ve been living but the Lord has brought in this disruption to bless us, Genesis 50:20. You heard it correctly, this is God’s grace to us all.
It was through the persecution of the saints that the gospel was spread across Jerusalem, Judea and all of Samaria. And while that may seem like an extreme comparison, I believe the purpose of those difficult times equally apply to us today.
Meaning, this isn’t a time to take advantage of cheap flights or go on vacations just because you’re not as susceptible to the virus. Nor is this the time to idly sit or sleep in because there’s no church to attend. No, this is the time to grow the seed of faith in our lives by fueling ourselves with the gospel of Christ, this is the time to meet people where they are by checking in on our fellow neighbors, co-workers and church members. This is the time for those who have families to grow in our discipleship of our children. This is the time to also pray for and protect those around us who are more susceptible to being impacted by this virus by staying away from crowds and being sensitive in how we live and who we interact with.
Our team is working hard to ensure that our facility continues to receive frequent and thorough cleaning. I would advise you all to refrain from traveling, both foreign or domestic and maintain a heart of prayerfulness over Global Harvest and our DFW communities. Would you also join me in praying for wisdom and strength for all our medical professionals and those working in the front-lines of this pandemic as they work towards a cure?
So dear friends and members, every Sunday morning we would love for you all to join us online for our live stream worship service. From 9:30 AM until 10 AM, our Kids Ministry will lead a service with praise and sermon for our little ones. From 10:05 AM, we will have a full service with praise, sermon and weekly communion for our members and viewers at home. You don’t have to be a pastor or a church leader to administer the Lord’s Supper (communion) but you must be a believer. Please have some juice and bread or crackers available for you and your family and simply follow along as we remember Christ who took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows, Is. 53:4.
Closing the church doors though difficult is sometimes necessary but closing our hearts to the sick, the helpless and to the lost should never be an option. I hope to connect with you all this Sunday but more than anything else, I hope to hear of the mighty ways the Lord has blessed and used you to love Him and others during these trying times.
Be safe, be encouraged for He is mighty to save. Press on!
